TOP 10 REALIZATIONS OF 2011

  1. Two eggs. Two baskets. One for work. One for your life. Work is not, and should never be, your life.
  2. Happiness is just as easy to switch off as it is to turn on.
  3. Never mess with the natural rhythm of your life.
  4. No cosmic force is keeping you from working out or quitting smoking. You're either too lazy or just don't want to do it.
  5. Visualization takes faith a step further. Positivity works.
  6. Our lives have become so public that crying out loud has taken on a new dimension but has lost its purpose altogether.
  7. The world's a big tease. There's really nothing new out there. People are people. Wherever they are in the world.
  8. Compatibility never guarantees shit in love and relationships.
  9. Gratitude is priceless. Be thankful. Even for shit.
  10. Do not stop evolving. Ever.

On Passion and Relationships

The thing about relationships is it's as temporal as our lives are on earth. Much as we want to make them last, at one point or another (or maybe for the lucky ones, never) magic is lost and you end up with just commitment holding you together. I believe that when passion is lost, the value of a relationship is lost with it. I would rather be single and happy than in a relationship devoid of passion.

Loving Life

This blog is so outdated. Haha. Just suffice it to know that life is good and I'm happy. And I thought I'd post this picture as it reflects just how good life is. Taken while on break during a recce outside of the country.

Keep the faith, everyone.

Love life. Live love. Embrace change.

On Microblogging and Traveling

Haven't been doing a lot of blog writing recently because of work and the many other distractions of my life (read as love life). I have been able to squeeze in a few minutes here and there, though, to do microblogging.

Posting here selected tweets from my
Twitter account, which includes tweets about running (which I have been doing a lot lately), moving on from a break-up (with someone I sincerely loved), music and music writing, my love affair with the rain, and ironically, tweets about twin horrors, Ondoy and Pepeng.

The latest tweet expresses my strong urge to book me a ticket far from here.
As in really far from here. A sign that I'm ready to move forward? Or just me wanting to escape again? Hmmm.

An Unfinished Song Written by Two Formerly Lonely Friends

Why open doors to let the hurt in?
Why let doubt and confusion set in?
Why give love a chance to rule your world?
Why let love? Why let love?

Is there nothing behind the veil?
No happy endings, nothing to gain?
A room full of promises
Is empty when there is pain.

Love comes knocking on your door
And sells you nothing new
But there’s no sale to be made.
And then there was you.

With love there are no locks,
So the doors are always open.
No veil, so love could see through
And the room – filled by me and you
In a dance, with a glance
Love always deserves a chance.

- Written by Glenn Ala and in part by Jay Redondo, on one of those nights

Found this in my email. Transcript by Jay of an exchange of text messages on one of those sad drinking nights. It just seems appropriate to post this now, especially since both of us have found our own loves within weeks from each other. I feel a song coming.

LSS

NEW SONG ALERT!
NEW SONG ALERT!
NEW SONG ALERT!
Hehehe. This one's called LSS.
As is my usual disclaimer, please forgive the crude playing and singing.

LSS (Last Song Syndrome)

Ladadaradada... dadadaradaradarararara...

Ginising mo’ng nanahimik kong puso
pinukaw ang damdamin kong
nagmistulang bato

Pinanabik ako sa himig na inawit
sa gabing pinaningning
nitong mga bituin

Ikaw ang laging laman ng isip
ang LSS na laging inaawit
ikaw ang tonong sa puso’y nakaukit
ang himig na dala hanggang panaginip

Ladadaradada... dadadaradaradarararara...

Singtamis nga ba ng tinig mong malamig
ang pag-ibig na hatid
anong kaba nitong dibdib!

Ang bawat himig at salitang nagmumula
sa ‘yong bibig nagbibigay init
sa gabing malamig

Ikaw ang laging laman ng isip
ang LSS na laging inaawit
ikaw ang tonong sa puso’y nakaukit
ang himig na dala hanggang panaginip

Ladadaradada... dadadaradaradarararara...

Kahit di ko aminin
kaysarap ulit-ulitin
dahil ang tinig mo
tanging ang himig mo
ang naririnig ng puso ko

Ladadaradada... dadadaradaradarararara...

WRU

Just had to repost :-(

WRU - Kokum

Yellow Raincoat

You came to me like the wind flowing, going
Where it wills, where it ends, where it blows steadily
You are like a breath of life, spontaneous and free
A kindred spirit brought home to me

You’re like a flower on the road swaying, swimming
In a sea of debris, holding on wearily
You are like the rain in summer, kiss of lemon on tea
A secret lover known only to me

Mmm... sweet as the sun in the morning
Mmm... soft as satin sheets in the evening

You’re the bright, shining Venus of my sky
Piny scent of Christmas in July
You’re the ribbon on the gift, the kite I’d love to fly
The yellow raincoat I wear to keep me dry
So don’t you even try
Don’t you go and say goodbye
Don’t you leave me here to cry

You came to me like a song playing, ringing
In my ears, with melodies from a lifetime of tears
You are like an emerald butterfly – floating in the breeze
A winged being, softly singing to me

You’re like the sea in the dark, brooding, moving
Silently, caressingly, where the sand meets the sea
You are like the endless rustling of the leaves on the trees
A mystery revealed solely to me

Mmm... sweet as the sun in the morning
Mmm... soft as satin sheets in the evening

You’re the bright, shining Venus of my sky
Piny scent of Christmas in July
You’re the ribbon on the gift, the kite I’d love to fly
The yellow raincoat I wear to keep me dry
So don’t you even try
Don’t you go and say goodbye
Don’t you leave me here to cry

Goodbye, Maxi!

He was always very special. Not just because he grew up in our care, but also because Maximo Oliveros was a sweet and happy dog, always in a great disposition and friendly even to strangers.

When he joined the family, everyone was instantly in love with the doe-eyed furry creature that he was.

He grew up roaming freely around the house and within the gates of the apartment.

Maxi was hyperactive and would always play chase with me and my brothers and sister.

I would even let him sleep sometimes on the bed with me.

Early this year, my younger brother and sister moved in to the new house in Bulacan. Maxi moved in with them. He had the whole lawn to himself and could move about freely, but often, they had to keep him leashed to keep him out of the house.

And then last week, the accident happened. My sister, Mikee, was tying him to his leash when he tried to break free and bit her on the hand. She managed to break free but was left with a couple of small gashes on her fingers. The next day, Maxi died for still unknown reasons.

Out of fear, we had his cadaver checked. Thank God the results came out negative for rabies. We will never know how Maxi died. But he will always be remembered.

Maxi was the family dog.

He was my dog. And he will be missed.

The Reason I Would Rather Not Be in a Long Distance Relationship

Okay, I admit. I, too, am affected (to say the least) reading Piper's last entry. I'm posting my responses to the many questions she posed. I advise you to wear your hard hats before reading on because rocks and stones might come pouring down hard from the heavens.

QUESTION # 1: CAN LOVE REALLY EXIST BETWEEN TWO UNEQUALS?
- The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 6:14, "Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?" This, of course refers to faith but the principle has many applications, including romantic (purely secular) relationships between two unequals.

QUESTION # 2: WHEN YOU'RE TIRED, DO YOU JUST REST?
- Uhm, yeah.

QUESTION # 3: IS THIS CONDITIONAL LOVE? Magpakatotoo tayo, mahirap ang UNCONDITIONAL LOVE. May ganun ba talaga?
- Meron naman. Kay God.

QUESTION # 4: WHEN SOMEONE DOESN'T EXERT EFFORT AND TELLS YOU "EH WALA AKONG MAGAWA," DO YOU BELIEVE HIM?
- I'm a "just do it" and a "try and try until you succeed" kind of person, so no, I won't believe him.

QUESTION # 5: WHEN THAT SOMEONE TELLS YOU "intindihin mo naman ako" WHEN YOU FEEL THAT YOU HAVE DRAINED YOURSELF TO UNDERSTAND HIM, SHOULD YOU ANSWER HIM BACK AND SAY: "eh patayin mo na lang kaya ako!"
- Why not?

QUESTION # 6: WHEN YOU SHARE A SUN LINE TO AVOID HEARING THE LINE "wala akong load eh" BUT YOU STILL HEAR THE LINE "eh walang signal eh", O ANO KA, ANO MASASABI MO DUN? HA? HA? HAHAHAHA! NATATAWA NA KO SA MGA ORAS NA TO. Hahahahaha!
- Ako rin, natatawa na. Mwahahahaha! Try and try until you succeed. I never stop until I've exhausted all my options.

QUESTION # 7: WHEN YOU'RE UP THERE AND HE'S DOWN BELOW, GIVEN...TUTULUNGAN MO SIYA. ANG TANONG, HANGGANG SAAN?
- That's a question of choice. Depends how much I choose to love him.

QUESTION # 8: WHEN ALL HE SAYS IS HE MISSES YOU AND HE LOVES YOU FOREVER, DO YOU JUST HAVE FAITH IN HIM? YUN LANG HA. YUN LANG ANG PINANGHAHAWAKAN MO. HAHA. WALA NGANG EFFORT DIBA?
- Action speaks louder than words. Yun lang.

QUESTION # 9: (eto medyo digging up the past ha, again, wala akong paki) WHEN HE THINKS THAT SAYING I LOVE YOU TO HIS EX GIRLFRIEND IS OKAY TAPOS ANG DAHILAN AY "friend ko sha eh" SHYET. MAY TATALO DUN? CGE NGA? YES, I TOO WAS STUPID TO GIVE HIM ANOTHER CHANCE. HAHAHAHA.
- I have only this to say: You can dig up as much of the past as you want, but me? I'd rather not. Hahaha!

QUESTION # 10: AT ETO KA, ETO KA. WHEN FACED WITH TWO CHOICES...A CHOICE BETWEEN PLANNING YOUR FUTURE, REUNITING WITH YOUR HONEY AFTER MORE THAN A MONTH, SCOUTING FOR POSSIBILITIES, EXPLORING A NEW WORLD, SETTING UP GAMEPLANS FOR YOUR CAREER, WITH FUN TRIPS AND HAPPY SUNSHINY DAYS vs. A GIG AT ICM WHICH HE ALREADY SAID NO TO, KAYA LANG SAYANG DAW KASI FASHION SHOW NG MOSSIMO, DEADMA NA KUNG MASAYANG ANG PLANE TICKET NA AKO ANG NAGBAYAD AT NAKABOOK NA THREE WEEKS AGO ....AT ANO ANG PINILI?
- Hahahaha! I choose the latter - sit and smoke and try to remember how I even got into it.

Alright

Another beginning is starting its ending today. I ain't okay
so don't come raining down on this parade.
The bubble has burst. The clowns have gone. The party's over.
Now, I'm done with this charade.

You left the room and left the lights on all night.
I woke up blinded and you were nowhere in sight.
Honestly couldn't remember if we had a fight.
And all this time I thought we were alright.

Now there's no more laughing and talking 'til morning comes
through the windows. No more kisses on the nose.
And now I'm beginning to feel the gaping hole you left in me.
You have gone, and so it goes.

You left the room and left the lights on all night.
I woke up blinded and you were nowhere in sight.
Honestly couldn't remember if we had a fight.
And all this time I thought we were alright.

Promises made and promises broken, feelings to share left unspoken
We could've given. We could've chosen. We could've been.
But you made your choice and now I'm broken. What else is left to bargain?
I could not have seen it coming.

Maybe tonight when I imagine you beside me
under the sheets on my bed.
I'll close my eyes to try to catch some scent of you
on the pillows on my head.

You left the room and left the lights on all night.
I woke up blinded and you were nowhere in sight.
Honestly couldn't remember if we had a fight.
And all this time I thought we were alright.

Another beginning is starting its ending today. I ain't okay
so don't come raining down on this parade.

Are You A Sex God?

Took the test at Tickle.com and got the following results. I, of course, modified the gender references accordingly.

Hark - the oracle speaks! A bolt of lightning falls from the sky! SHAZAAM! As the smoke clears, the hidden deity in you emerges and is revealed to be:

ARES, God of War.

You crave power and you value strength. However, you do not restrict these qualities to the battlefield. You bring your need for control into the bedroom. When behind closed doors, you quickly drop the game playing - and your pants. You love men, and you like to feel worshipped by the men you choose to bed. Comfortable with traditional gender roles, you like to be on top and call all the shots. Although sexually aggressive and strong, you make sure that the men you conquer are also fulfilled and satisfied. Your performance has been perfected through time and practice, and you are always ready to hit the sheets and strut your stuff! You leave a trail of satisfied mortals in your wake.

Of Pride and Prejudice

I've seen the movie, now I've read the book, and am resolved to read it again soon.

Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice raises some very interesting points on how civilities often stifle individuality, and how they usually breed pride and prejudice. All of this comes, of course, at a very opportune time in my life when the fine lines are drawn, blurred, erased, and re-drawn, between appearances and principles, honor and character, pride and dignity. I laughed and cried through the whole experience.

I could write a whole thesis on the book, but I don't have the time. Neither will I give it time. What I choose to give time to, instead, is reading. I so miss the exercise. Keeps the mind sharp.

Next on the agenda: Dan Brown's Angels & Demons, one of the books I've long been putting off.

Slow Dance

You looked up at me
With eyes that mirrored
The painful reality
Of what was to be

Tears of bitterness
Were waiting to fall
And I was there waiting
To catch them all

Then our music started playing
It was the first song of the evening
But we both knew what was true
It was the anthem of an ending long overdue

How can we dance and then pretend
Follow the music that leads to the end
How do we embrace and say we didn’t try
How do we dance the slow dance of goodbye

Locked in a dance
We were in a trance
Spoke of love so pure
But the future was sure

When the first tear fell
Your pain I felt
I could no longer keep in step
So I held you and wept

Then our music started playing
It was the first song of the evening
But we both knew what was true
It was the anthem of an ending long overdue

How can we dance and then pretend
Follow the music that leads to the end
How do we embrace and say we didn’t try
How do we dance the slow dance of goodbye

If this is really the end
For the last time let me hold your hand
Let’s let this final moment stand
And love while we still can

How can we dance and then pretend
Follow the music that leads to the end
How do we embrace and say we didn’t try
How do we dance the slow dance of goodbye

Drift (Recorded)

Recently learned that the one for whom I wrote this song has broken up with the guy he ended up with. Now he's with someone else.

Sigh.

It's the turn of the year
I see everything clear
Got a new job at a new place
Ready now to run the race

Packed my bags and said goodbye
To all the ones that passed me by
Everything fresh, everything new
It's all too good to be true

I face the road ahead
With much ado 'bout nothing
But the truth is I am running
Running away from you

Running away from you, oh woooh
Running away from you, oh woooh

Looked back at the pier
As mem'ries disappear
Of the love that I once knew
Farther away from you

Now I reach the shores of promise
But something's still amiss
Not everything fresh, not everything new
It's not complete without you

I face the road ahead
With much ado 'bout nothing
But the truth is I am running
Running away from you

Running away from you, oh woooh
Running away from you, oh woooh

I have crossed the seas and oceans blue
Only to find my heart...

Drifting back to you, oh woooh
Drifting back to you, oh woooh
Drifting back to you, oh woooh
Drifting back to you

This song was written for our dearest Prue, who is now in hiatus. I think this is going to be the first time for him to hear it. Forgive the off-key singing. I recorded this at home in the wee hours of the morning. Prue, I hope you like it.

Here I lie on the sand
Hazy blue skies above
Morning’s soon to dawn
And will bring my love home

I stand on the promise
That one day you will come
Oh, angel of my life, alight
With the morning sun

Now I know I will never be alone
And they will know that our love will be that strong
Because with every waking dawn
Your warm embrace will come along
Because the sunrise brings my angel home

You’re as real as my thoughts
And feel as warm as the sun
When your wings take flight
With the coming of the light

I stand on the promise
That one day you will come
Oh, angel of my life, alight
With the morning sun

Now I know I will never be alone
And they will know that our love will be that strong
Because with every waking dawn
Your warm embrace will come along
Because the sunrise brings my angel home

And now reality sets in
Your presence slowly growing thin
So I live through the day, and head out again at night
So I could wait for first light

Now I know I will never be alone
And they will know that our love will be that strong
Because with every waking dawn
Your warm embrace will come along
Because the sunrise brings my angel home

The Chronicler's Creed

Where there's water and sun, where there are friends to see or new people to meet, where there's something new to learn, experience, or do, where there's life, there I will be.

LA POESÍA

Y fue a esa edad... Llegó la poesía
a buscarme. No sé, no sé de dónde
salió, de invierno o río.
No sé cómo ni cuándo,
no, no eran voces, no eran
palabras, ni silencio,
pero desde una calle me llamaba,
desde las ramas de la noche,
de pronto entre los otros,
entre fuegos violentos
o regresando solo,
allí estaba sin rostro
y me tocaba.

And it was at that age... Poetry arrived
in search of me. I do not know, I do not know where
it came from, from winter or a river.
I do not know how or when,
no, they were not voices, they were not
words, nor silence,
but from a street I was summoned,
from the branches of night,
abruptly from the others,
among violent fires
or returning alone,
there I was without a face
and it touched me.
