TOP 10 REALIZATIONS OF 2011

  1. Two eggs. Two baskets. One for work. One for your life. Work is not, and should never be, your life.
  2. Happiness is just as easy to switch off as it is to turn on.
  3. Never mess with the natural rhythm of your life.
  4. No cosmic force is keeping you from working out or quitting smoking. You're either too lazy or just don't want to do it.
  5. Visualization takes faith a step further. Positivity works.
  6. Our lives have become so public that crying out loud has taken on a new dimension but has lost its purpose altogether.
  7. The world's a big tease. There's really nothing new out there. People are people. Wherever they are in the world.
  8. Compatibility never guarantees shit in love and relationships.
  9. Gratitude is priceless. Be thankful. Even for shit.
  10. Do not stop evolving. Ever.

Sea of Change

Listen to the wind as it howls in the dark of the night
Owls turn their heads in the middle of flight
Something’s coming for you and you know it’s coming tonight
Flashing up ahead you are blinded by the light

Open up your eyes look around you will see the signs
The planets and the stars have decided to align
It’s written in the stars won’t you look up in the sky
Drowning in my bed spinning into a dive

Don’t you see it?
Don’t you feel it?

Standing on the edge of a breakthrough will you face this sea of change
Drawn into the light will you break these chains and brave this sea of change
Don’t stop, don’t hold back
Just feel it, embrace it

Taste it in the air breathe it in take it in and try
Feel it in your gut as it eats you alive
Let it sweep you up so let go and give up the fight
Change is drawing near it’ll grab you at night

Don’t you see it?
Don’t you feel it?

Standing on the edge of a breakthrough will you face this sea of change
Drawn into the light will you break these chains and brave this sea of change
Don’t stop, don’t look back
Just feel it, embrace it

Don’t you feel it?
Don’t you see it?

Standing on the edge of a breakthrough will you face this sea of change
Drawn into the light will you break these chains and brave this sea of change
Don’t stop, don’t hold back
Just feel it, embrace it

Nude Photography

Venturing into nude photography and I need models.

At the very least you have to be comfortable in your own skin and wouldn't mind being published either in an exhibit, on print, or online.

If you're interested, let me know.

On Passion and Relationships

The thing about relationships is it's as temporal as our lives are on earth. Much as we want to make them last, at one point or another (or maybe for the lucky ones, never) magic is lost and you end up with just commitment holding you together. I believe that when passion is lost, the value of a relationship is lost with it. I would rather be single and happy than in a relationship devoid of passion.

Honor and Excellence

Was in tears watching this. I remember listening to her lectures in Economics back in college and looking back at it now, I'm glad to have had that privilege. This is moving and inspiring. I hope to find the transcript (or maybe make one?) so I could share it to more friends. If you were once part of the UP System, you gotta hear this.

Casting Call for a Film

(Reposted from Cherry Alba)

PROJECT RAINCLOUD CASTING CALL
Cinema One Originals 2010 Film directed by Joaquin Pedro Valdes

Somewhere in the foggy mountains of the North, farm brothers Teo and Pol leave their home in search of their father who has mysteriously disappeared. In their quest, the brothers unveil the truth of the disappearances and witness the morbid horrors that surround them.

CHARACTER LIST
  • All actors must be open to shoot on location for 7 days straight (August 1 to 9)
  • All actors must be willing to do intense workshops with the Director prior to the shooting dates
  • All actors must be open to certain aesthetic and styling requirements specific to the character and story
TEO
14-16 years old
Sun kissed skin, worn by work in the field among other outdoor activities. Unschooled yet intuitive. Brooding and spirited. Older brother to POL. Abrasive, strong-willed yet immature.

-SPEAKS TAGALOG WELL
-INTUITIVE and INSTINCTIVE
-NO BAD CHILD-ACTOR HABITS

POL
9-10 years old
Sun kissed skin. A quiet, shy and introverted boy. He expresses himself physically and mostly non-verbally. Unschooled. Was very helpful to the planting and harvesting activities of his dad. He USED to be playful and bright-eyed until the disappearance of his father. Constantly in sibling rivalry with his older brother TEO. His role is pivotal as he witnesses the horror of the entire film but is unable to share his pains with anyone, so he keeps it to himself.

-HAS THE MOST DOMINANT ARC IN THE STORY
-MUST BE AN EXCELLENT ACTOR, PROBABLY A BREAKTHROUGH ROLE FOR HIM
-VERSED WITH TAGALOG
-NO “KENGKOY” KID ACTING
-THE YOUNGER THE BETTER

PIDO
30-35 years old
Older brother to LILA
Good looking, athletic, strong and dominant. Deep set eyes, weathered skin, scruffy, rugged, unshaven and semi-bald. He has some piercing, some skin art. His arms are strong and vascular- looks like years of fighting, building and rebuilding have pocketed themselves into his veins. Alpha male. Pido is the leader of the tribe. Sharp, cerebral and is perpetually in deep thought.

-THE FILM HAS MOMENTS WHEREIN WE LOVE HIM AND THEN WE HATE HIM
-HE IS THREATENING, OMINOUS AND BROODING
-HAS A PRIMAL AND ANIMALISTIC NATURE
-INTENSE, LOVABLE, ASPIRATIONAL and DECEPTIVE
-PEGS: EDWARD NORTON PRIMAL FEAR/AMERICAN HISTORY X, KIEFER SUTHERLAND in LOST BOYS, COL. HANS LANDA (Inglorious Basterds), HANNIBAL LECTER
**IT IS A REQUIREMENT THAT PIDO be bald and unshaven. If they have natural body hair and tattoos, better.

LILA
15-17 years old
Beautiful Ilocana girl
Innocent, meek and angelic. Younger sister to PIDO. Long hair, small almost slit eyes, and fair skinned (the way Igorot women are light skinned), ruddy, pink cheeks and subtly beautiful. She CANNOT stand out, nor can she be imposing. She must look inconspicuous and approachable.

-PROVIDES SOME SEXUAL TENSION FOR TEO
-IS SOFT SPOKEN, ATTRACTIVE and CONVINCING
-MUST POSSESS SOMETHING ETHEREAL be it in BEAUTY or manner
-SOMEONE FRESH, YOUNG, and VIRGINAL
-PEGS: A teenage GONG LI

TEBAN
18-20 years old
Son of TOLOME
He is one of the few friends that grew up with TEO, their relationship gets tarnished when TEO feels that TOLOME is somewhat responsible for the disappearance of his own father. He is tactless, talks too much and doesn’t know when to stop.

TOLOME
40-45
The father of TEBAN
A policeman who recently gets promoted. He’s become the target of TEO’s anger. He’s ambitious, manipulative and shady. He openly drinks, occasionally gambles and is a known womanizer.

THE FATHER
38-45 year old farmer
Dark skinned, average height and body strengthened by labor and time. He appears mostly as a hallucination and dream. He has disappeared in the beginning of the film leaving his two sons orphaned.

THE TRIBE
The group, around 30 men strong, is comprised of different men, from different backgrounds. Most of them young, most of them athletic. Good looking boys. Their bodies are worked from hunting, fighting, running, and playing. It is a fraternity of brewing energy and testosterone. They look to PIDO as their leader.

INGGO
25-30
PIDO’s liason officer. He is a war freak and is protective of any new face and personality. He becomes a foil to TEO especially when he smells some attraction between TEO and LILA. He is muscular, loud and constantly pissy.

BAGETS
35-40
One of the eldest in the group, but he never really took a leadership position. His name becomes a joke among the boys.

TOMMY and BENNY
18-20
Brothers, orphans who lost their parents in the earthquake in Baguio. They were placed in relief camps and given some goods for the first week, but then didn’t have any place to go thereafter.

HESUS
18-25
The ex seminary boy

ITLOG
20-25
One of the few skilled hunters in the group. He brandishes great hunting spears and is constantly with a carving knife.

KANO
17-21
The albino or anak-araw. His skin disease earned him his monicker, quiet and very very sketchy.

BAGOBO
20-25
He is dark skinned and muscular, has body art and unusual piercings. He has very long thick hair that reaches his feet. They tease him because he looks like a bagobo warrior.

LIIT
20-25
The biggest and most muscular in the group.

FERDI
20-25
A college drop out.

PUSOY
19-23
The hardest drinker. He is responsible for keeping everyone intoxicated and having a good time. He is loud and has a distinctly shrill laugh.

TE-BATS
14-16
The baby of the group. He grew up with the Tribe and knows no other family. They tease him because he always gets horny easily and quickly.

SINGKIT
18-20
A bastard child.

THE MILITARY
3 young men, 20-25
They are obviously lax and exploitative. Their overstay makes them all too familiar with the community and the town giving them license to abuse and exploit the townsfolk. The young boys take their power for granted and abuse the trust given them by threatening those who refuse them with guns and violence.

Handsome Men's Club

This one got me rolling on the floor laughing. Enjoy, people!

Loving Life

This blog is so outdated. Haha. Just suffice it to know that life is good and I'm happy. And I thought I'd post this picture as it reflects just how good life is. Taken while on break during a recce outside of the country.

Keep the faith, everyone.

Love life. Live love. Embrace change.

Poi Spinning

While hosting an event at the Intercon in Makati, Evie (Piper) and I got to try poi spinning or zip spinning and we were instantly hooked. "Fire Queen" Rachel Lobangco, who tells us she stays half the year in Boracay, was guest performer at the event and she was enthusiastic at teaching us the basics.

Now, Evie wants zips for Christmas. So do I! Haha. Maybe this summer we'll both get to zip in Boracay or some other beach.

Now that's something to look forward to.

The Chronicler's Creed

Where there's water and sun, where there are friends to see or new people to meet, where there's something new to learn, experience, or do, where there's life, there I will be.

LA POESÍA

Y fue a esa edad... Llegó la poesía
a buscarme. No sé, no sé de dónde
salió, de invierno o río.
No sé cómo ni cuándo,
no, no eran voces, no eran
palabras, ni silencio,
pero desde una calle me llamaba,
desde las ramas de la noche,
de pronto entre los otros,
entre fuegos violentos
o regresando solo,
allí estaba sin rostro
y me tocaba.

And it was at that age... Poetry arrived
in search of me. I do not know, I do not know where
it came from, from winter or a river.
I do not know how or when,
no, they were not voices, they were not
words, nor silence,
but from a street I was summoned,
from the branches of night,
abruptly from the others,
among violent fires
or returning alone,
there I was without a face
and it touched me.
