Last Chapter

Today is officially my last day at GMA. Here's to 3 wonderful years working with great people in a great company!

With Leo Sanchez, my boss of 3 years. On break in Boracay. Thanks for all the opportunities, the mentoring, and most of all, the friendship.

Early years at GMA. With Noli and Aileen, during an editing session for JSR.

On coverage in Bohol to do a story on seahorses.

At the JSR/KMJS cubicle, circa 2005.

Will miss the yosi breaks at the gazebo. Here with our former PC, Tetet, some time 2005.

Ethel before take. At the mall show of Show Ko! Pasiklaban ng Bayan, one of the first shows I handled.

With my ever-loyal, ever-hardworking, ever-beautiful Production Administrator, Gemma, at our newly assigned cubicle.

With the Balik-Bayan staff on pizza break.

With one of my EPs, Jacel, on yosi break at the 5th floor.

With Jane, on the road to Tagaytay for Leo's birthday celebration.

At my new cubicle.

The ladies of Q. Ganda!

My mum, posing with Joyce Jimenez, at the coffee shop on the 4th floor.

Great staff - the most creative, most loyal, most hardworking, most fun bunch of people you will ever meet.

Here's to endless post mortem and brainstorming sessions!

And loads of scripts, reports, and paperwork!

Ah, and the presentations! Woohoo!

We work hard, we play hard.

With my volleyball teammates and friends, Addy, Ali and Dante.

Many wonderful memories

many wonderful times

with many wonderful friends.

Today, the last chapter unfolds.

Tomorrow, a new set of challenges arises.

To the friends and family I have made in GMA, thank you for making my 3-year stay worth every while. I love you all.

IQ Test Results from Tickle

Interesting comparisons. Me, like Plato? Nice.

Take this test!

Your mind's strengths allow you to think ahead of the game — to imagine or anticipate what should come next in just about any situation. Because you're equally skilled in the numerical and verbal universes of the brain, you can draw from multiple sources of information to come up with great ideas. The timelessness of your vision and the balance between your various skills are what make you a Visionary Philosopher.

In addition to your strengths in math and linguistics, you have a knack for matching and anticipating patterns. These skills and your uncanny ability to detect the underlying blueprint of most of life's situations add to your Visionary Philosopher mind.
Two philosophers who share the same combination of skills you possess are Plato and Benedict Spinoza. Spinoza had insight into how things worked in the world. He could envision a future based on the patterns he saw in life, and used mathematical logic as a structure within which to present his philosophical arguments. With that base he was able to use logic to formulate his theories. Borrowing from his linguistic strengths he wrote eloquent texts and, therefore, was able to bring his philosophical ideas and structure to the rest of the world. His story exemplifies the talents that are present in the Visionary Philosopher intellectual type.

Whatever you decide to do in life, you've got a powerful mix of skills and insight that can be applied in a wide variety of ways. You can expand your mind to understand a situation. Your strong balance of math and verbal skills will help you explain things to others. For example, if you were on an archaeological dig and discovered an object, you could probably use your deductive powers to figure out not only what the object was but also how it was used. Given your ability to put things together, you are more than capable of inventing a life plan that is in synch with your perspective on how things were, how they are, and how they might be one day.

To those who know Ned Legaspi, he put up a lovely, lovely blog of his rendezvous in France.

Do visit his site. I've put a link to his site in The Chronicler's Network on this page, or you may click here to visit.

(My apologies to Ned for reposting his picture without permission. Just had to, Ned. Hehe.)

Got Tagged!

Got tagged by the Charmed Ones so I'm posting a screen shot of my desktop and doing a bit of elaborating.

As you will see, my desktop is quite organized, but this is only because the tagging caught me at a time when I wasn't too busy. The picture would have been very different if it was taken a month back.

The picture is that of the Singapore cityscape taken by my friend, Piper, during a visit to another friend, Kutilpa. Posted it on my desktop to keep me reminded of where I am going.

Took me a while to put this picture up. Had to figure out first how to capture a screen shot without actually using a camera. Haha. But I found out eventually.

Quite easy actually. Just hit the Print Screen (PrtSc) key on the keyboard and you instantly save a picture of your screen on the clipboard. Paste on any graphics program (like Paint or Photoshop), save, and voila! You have your screen shot. This, of course, works for Windows. Works differently with Mac, I think.

Okay, now I need to pass this on. I'm tagging Tina, Cam, Single Fish, Tintin, and Kutilpa. Let's see how your desktops look like.

Island Boys and Girls

Recently went to Boracay to attend the wedding of my good friend, Lengo. Brought along my brother, Andrew, and sister, Mikee, and spent 5 grand days on vacation with them.

It was the kids' first plane ride and their first time in Boracay. They were naturally all excited.

Well, my sister barely made the whole flight. She was nauseous for the most part.

But that did not dampen their spirits. I had them posing for photos at Kalibo airport and they were all game.

Once we were on the island, they were unstoppable. They wanted pictures at every stop. This one was taken over lunch at D'Mall.

And this one over dinner at The Hobbit House.

Nighttime walk by the beach. Single Fish in the foreground.

Friday night gimmick at Summer Place, owned by vice mayor and good friend, John Yap.

Had a pitcher of their house special, the Shark Attack. Thanks, John!

The next day we were mostly hung over from the partying the night before. This was taken at breakfast - around noon! The rest of the pictures were not as nice. Haha!

My brother and sister practically had the rest of the afternoon to themselves. Single Fish, and my other friends and I had to attend the wedding of our friend, Lengo.

Here's Mikee with her corn rows. Ouch!

And here is their first Boracay sunset.

The rest of us were, of course, at the wedding.

Reception followed at the beach front of Discovery Shores, one of the nicest - and most expensive - resorts in Boracay.

Lengo and her husband, Xavier, were game enough to pose in this high action shot with us.

I, of course, would not miss the opportunity to pose with the Boracay sunset behind me.

Cocktails followed soon after the pictorials. The seafood was fresh and the wine excellent!

We stayed through a most lavish buffet and an endless flow of reds and whites. Wonderful reception, Lengo!

The next day was spent in the water under the sun

building sandcastles - or at least trying -

and getting sunburned. Haha!

Then we headed back to the cottage to get ready for the next part of our itinerary -

the island tour!

Took the best seat in the house.

Here are Mikee and Andrew ready for their encounter with Nemo.

And here is Nemo posing for the camera.

We had early dinner at Puka Beach. The Prawns were divine!

Then we had dessert at Cafe Breizh (pronounced as braz). Here are Arla and Karen eagerly awaiting their crepes.

Later, we caught up with the newlyweds at Summer Place to down 2 more pitchers of Shark Attack.

The next day, most of the guests left for Manila. Mikee, Andrew and I stayed one more night. A stranger paid us a visit -

the nicest and friendliest cat on the island!

The rest of the day was spent swimming, sleeping

and enjoying quiet moments by the sea.

We capped our last night in Boracay with Mongolian dinner by the beach - lovely!

The next day, we left the island early to catch the 12 pm flight back home.

Wonderful vacation. Two weeks from now, I go back. For work. But then, we can always make time for pleasure. Haha!

The Island Boy returns November 8.

The Chronicler's Creed

Where there's water and sun, where there are friends to see or new people to meet, where there's something new to learn, experience, or do, where there's life, there I will be.

LA POESÍA

Y fue a esa edad... Llegó la poesía
a buscarme. No sé, no sé de dónde
salió, de invierno o río.
No sé cómo ni cuándo,
no, no eran voces, no eran
palabras, ni silencio,
pero desde una calle me llamaba,
desde las ramas de la noche,
de pronto entre los otros,
entre fuegos violentos
o regresando solo,
allí estaba sin rostro
y me tocaba.

And it was at that age... Poetry arrived
in search of me. I do not know, I do not know where
it came from, from winter or a river.
I do not know how or when,
no, they were not voices, they were not
words, nor silence,
but from a street I was summoned,
from the branches of night,
abruptly from the others,
among violent fires
or returning alone,
there I was without a face
and it touched me.
